An injured climber was rescued from Mt. Rainier Wednesday morning, spokeswoman Pam Garrison from the Department of the Army said.

Crews received the call around 9 p.m. Tuesday that a climber was injured when he fell into a crevasse on the eastside at the 12,000 foot level of the mountain, said Garrison.

The man was one of five people, including a physician, who were climbing Tuesday.

The injured man was lifted off the mountain via an Army Reserve helicopter crew and taken to Madigan Army Medical Center.

His condition is unknown. Park rangers said he may have internal injuries.

The National Park Service Rescue Rangers and a Central Pierce County Fire and Rescue paramedic and EMT also assisted in the rescue.
