Officer In Downtown Shooting Previously Killed Man

SEATTLE -- KIRO Team 7 Investigators have learned from Seattle Police Department’s records that one of the officers involved in the shooting of a bank robbery suspect Tuesday shot and killed a man in 2002.The officer is 13-year veteran Geoff Goehagen. In the 2002 shooting, Goehagen killed a suspect in several ATM robberies who was armed with a paint sprayer disguised to look like a handgun.Goehagen was one of four officers involved in the shooting of Douglas Cox, the man who was the subject of a huge police response in downtown Seattle after allegedly robbing a bank in West Seattle before leading police on a chase that ended with his shooting by officers.Cox turned out to be armed with a CO2-powered pellet gun. Seattle police said they believed that Cox was armed and that he is a dangerous felon.Cox remains in Harborview Medical Center where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to the neck.
