SEATTLE, Wash. -- A man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death and then called police to turn himself in, the Seattle Police Department said.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, a call came into 911 from a man who said he stabbed a woman in the residence of the 2100 South Maine and that she was not breathing, said Deanna Nollette, spokeswoman for the Seattle Police Department.

When police responded to the scene they found the woman dead inside, said Nollette.

Neighbors said the couple had been living together for some time and they could often hear fighting coming from the apartment.

“I mean there were a lot of domestic things going on. A lot of domestic fights,” neighbor Ken Carter said.

The man was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of homicide.
