PARKLAND, Wash. -- A Pierce County couple lost everything early Saturday morning, after fireworks sparked a fire in the house they were renting, Central Pierce Fire and Rescue said. The couple was not at home when fireworks came through the window of the house in the 700 block of 132nd South in Parkland.Fire crews said they could see flames through the two front windows when they arrived just after 3 a.m. Saturday.Crews were called to the house just an hour earlier because the woman had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital.Investigators said the fire began while she was gone."The investigation showed that a window was left open and a firework or some type of device was unintentionally, apparently, had fallen into the window and caused the house to be on fire," Battalion Chief Wayne Garden of the Central Pierce Fire and Rescue said.Residents in the neighborhood said fireworks were flying everywhere."You could see that they were shooting bottle rockets at each other. They were careless. They were starting to aim them at our house. We were getting a little worried about it," said neighbor Belinda Carter.Carter said she and her family went to bed. When they got up several hours later, they saw fire crews everywhere and realized what happened. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
