A 6-year-old boy pulled from a Kitsap County lake has been identified as Malachi DeWalt.

The boy disappeared while swimming in Horseshoe Lake near Belfair Tuesday afternoon. He had been missing for about 10 minutes when his father called 911, saying he could not find the boy.

The boy was unconscious. Medics performed CPR as he was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.

A woman who saw the incident told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that it took medic units 15 to 20 minutes to get to the scene. Dawn Yarbrough said a friend of hers performed CPR until medics arrived.

The sheriff's office said the boy's family was out for a day at the lake and that it appeared everyone thought someone else was watching him until he was discovered missing.

Deputies said the boy was under water for at least 20 minutes.
