Vandals Hit Everett Cemetery

Police are looking for vandals who caused more than $12,000 in damage to the Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, said Sgt. Robert Goetz of the Everett Police Department.

Police responded to the cemetery at 4500 Broadway Avenue after they received reports that vandals damaged the cemetery and mausoleum Wednesday night.

Vandals didn't just tip over headstones, but they shattered at least five of them with what appears to be a hammer, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

"It appalls me that anyone would take someone's marker and destroy it," said general manager Allen Ice.

A family’s private mausoleum has a hole punched through the front of the crypt and the granite slab below it destroyed, exposing another casket.

Ice said most of the people buried at the cemetery are veterans.

There are no leads on the vandals, but police said they are keeping an extra watch on all cemeteries after recent vandalism incidents in Seattle and Everett.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity in and around cemeteries to police.

Anyone with information on this case should call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450.
