56-Year-Old Man Gunned Down In Seattle

SEATTLE -- Police are trying to determine who is responsible for the fatal shooting of a 56-year-old man in Seattle's Central District Monday night.It happened at about 11:30 p.m. near the corner of East Columbia Street and 26th Avenue East. The man was found laying on the sidewalk.Neighbors called 911 after hearing several shots go off."I was having a cigarette on my front porch before I went to sleep and I heard the shots. It sounded like it was right around the corner, which it was. I jumped (back) into the house," said David Shadrick.The man was struck in the chest and taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died.Officer Mark Jamieson said the motive for the shooting is unknown. Police do not believe it was gang-related.Resident Michal Blum told KIRO there are have been instances of trouble in the area but for the most part the area she's lived in for 10 years is turning around. The victim's name has not yet been released.
