Boeing Plane Makes Emergency Landing

A Boeing jumbo jet made an emergency landing in the Philippines Friday with a huge hole in its fuselage.

The Qantas flight No. 30 was on its way to Melbourne, Australia, from London, had just made a stopover in Hong Kong when the incident happened.

One hour after takeoff, passengers reported a boom that left a gaping hole in the plane, officials said there was an "explosive decompression."

Several of the 345 passengers on board said part of the plane's interior broke apart after the cabin lost pressure. Sections of the floor and ceiling collapsed causing a huge hold extending from the cabin to the cargo hold, seven by nine feet in diameter.

The pilot was forced to quickly descend and make an emergency landing at Manila's International Airport.

"We were told the door popped when we were up in the air. We hadn't realized there was a hole in the plane until we got down on the ground and had a look afterwards," said passenger Rob McGeechan.

Video from a passenger on board the plane showed oxygen masks dangling from the ceiling, a depressurized cabin and people bracing themselves for an emergency landing.

Passengers applauded after the pilot made a safe landing in the Philippines.

No one was injured.
