Kent Police Bust Street Races

KENT, Wash. -- Thirty-seven vehicles were stopped and 100 people were arrested in a street racing bust in Kent, said Officer Paul Petersen of the Kent Police Department.Kent police and members of the Washington State Patrol busted an illegal street racing taking place in a parking lot of a private business around 12:10 a.m. Saturday.

VIDEO BACKSTORY: Behind The Scenes Of A Kent Street Racing BustPolice and troopers stopped all 37 vehicles involved in the racing and those attending the races. Citations were issued to all of the 100 people arrested for trespassing and attending illegal races. Two people were booked into jail for driving under the influence and four people were arrested for reckless driving and racing, said Petersen.Seven of the 100 people arrested were juveniles and they were released to a parent with charging being forwarded to the King County Juvenile Court.Kent police impounded a total of 6 cars and one motorcycle.“We’ve wanted to do this for a long time because we’ve been getting complaints from businesses that they come in Monday morning and their lots are trashed and grooves burned into the payment from spinning tires,” Petersen said.Petersen said street racing is illegal and that attending the races is a crime in the city of Kent.Almost all of the people cited are from cities in the Puget Sound area, but not from Kent.
