The 7-year-old girl, who was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, is going home from the hospital Friday, but police still haven’t found the driver.

Rohey Leigh was hit as she was in a group of 15 young children walking to the park in Rainier Beach, said Seattle police. The incident happened around 12:25 p.m. Thursday near Rainier Beach High School at 8815 Seward Park Ave. S., Seattle police said.

The group from the YWCA Dunlop day care was walking in the crosswalk when the driver didn’t wait for them to cross and he went right into the intersection hitting the girl, said Seattle police.

"I got hit by a car yesterday when I was at day care," Leigh said.

Eyewitnesses said the car that hit Leigh went around another car that had stopped for the day care group and their supervisors.

The driver was going through the intersection and "started honking the horn like he wasn’t even going to slow down," said eyewitness Ryan Bolton. "I just see this little girl slide across the pavement and the guy didn’t even make an effort to slow down.”

Leigh suffered scrapes and bruises, including on her lungs, said her father Sheriff Leigh.

Both Rohey and her father hope police catch the driver soon.

“Stop, say you are sorry, and let whatever would happen, happen, but don't run away and hide,” said Rohey’s father.

The vehicle is described as a large Cadillac, Buick or Oldsmobile from the late '70s or '80s. It’s light blue with a white vinyl roof and was last seen southbound on Seward Park Avenue South. Witnesses provided a license plate number, so police may be able to find the hit-and-run driver.

Anyone with information should call Seattle police.
