The Mason County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found in a wooded area northeast of Collins Lake on the Tahuya Peninsula in Mason County.

The discovery was made by a Tahuya man while he and his son were picking mushrooms on Tuesday.

Investigators said the remains are mostly bones and have been there for a considerable time.

B. Dean Byrd, chief deputy of operations at the sheriff's office, said that police will be investigating the possibility that the remains could belong to a Belfair man who has been missing since Dec. 6, 2007.

The family of George Ronald Fuller said he had a serious heart condition and was in "poor physical condition."

The sheriff's office said it was working closely with the coroner's office in an attempt to identify the remains and determine the manner and cause of death.

Deputies will be conducting an extensive search of the area in hopes of retrieving more evidence, police said.
