2 Men Arrested In Centralia Bomb Scare

CENTRALIA, Wash. -- Detectives from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men Friday morning in connection with an improvised explosive device left alongside railroad tracks near the Transalta Mine in Centralia on Aug. 20.The men, both of Napavine, were arrested after a lengthy investigation by detectives.According to the sheriff's office, one man told detectives he made the bomb device for the Fourth of July but the device did not detonate as planned.The man said that in the first part of August he put the device in his car and was planning on transporting it to a place where he could dump it but became scared when he saw a security guard near Transalta and quickly dumped the device near the railroad tracks.Police said the man admitted seeing news breaking about the incident but was too scared to call the sheriff’s office to tell them what had happened.The other man was arrested for providing the blasting cap found on the device.Both men were booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful possession of explosives and one man will also be facing trespassing charges.
