Power has been restored to most customers after a powerful weekend storm. A storm carrying winds in excess of 40 mph blew into the Puget Sound area Saturday afternoon, toppling trees and causing power outages for thousands of Seattle City Light customers.

This morning Seattle City Light reports there is a power outage affecting about 24 customers in West Seattle.

A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service was in effect across most of Western Washington until 9 p.m. Saturday.

KIRO 7 meteorologist Rick VanCise said a deep trough of low pressure moved through Western Washington causing showers, cool temperatures and windy conditions into the evening.

Nearly 8,500 customers were without power about 2:30 p.m. across the Seattle City Light service territory. City Light called in additional crews in advance of the storm in expectation of the outages.

A South Seattle outage affecting about 2,800 customers was generally bounded by South 99th Street on the north, Southwest 176th Street on the south, Military Road on the east and 32nd Avenue Southwest on the west. Power was expected to be restored by 6 p.m., the utility said.

An outage in northeast Seattle affected 2,575 customers and a Lake Forest Park outage affected 2,900 customers.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or gusts of 45 to 57 mph are likely.
