SUV Crashes Through Bellevue Apartment, Landing In Kitchen

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The driver of an SUV sped off a Bellevue road, crashed through the wall of an apartment building and landed inside a unit's kitchen early Friday, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.Police said the vehicle became airborne as it careened over a fence and then slammed into the bottom floor of a unit at the Somerset Green Townhomes in the 4200 block of 129th Place Southeast at 1 a.m.The SUV had been traveling on a street above the complex when it somehow lost control, fishtailing about 180 degrees, a Bellevue police officer said.
VIDEO: SUV Leaves Gaping Hole In ApartmentThe impact from the Nissan Xterra's crash was so great that the SUV became wedged behind a tree as well.Once removed from the building, the crash left behind a gaping hole and a trail of broken glass and wood.Police said the driver fled the scene and witnesses reported seeing a man running from the area after hearing the crash.Officers set up road blocks and used a K-9 unit and a helicopter in an attempt to find the man, but he eluded capture.No one inside the apartment was hurt.
