SEATTLE -- A woman found dead in her Redmond apartment was strangled, the King County Medical Examiner's Office said. The body of Arpana Jinaga, 24, was found Monday in her apartment in the 8900 block of Redmond-Woodinville Road after a friend of the victim had discovered her and called authorities.Preliminary investigation revealed the front door was forced open, shattering the doorjam, and it appeared there was a physical struggle by the victim, Redmond police spokesman Jim Bove said. The medical examiner's office said Jinaga died sometime Saturday and someone used a ligature to strangle her. There was a memorial service for Jinaga Thursday in Bellevue. Friends and coworkers from EMC Corporation, where she had worked since March, attended the service.A Redmond police officer was also there outside the service, taking pictures of every car and license plate. At this point, police have no suspects.“It's hard to say whether it was someone she knew or didn’t know that's why we're going to continue asking as many people as we can,” said Jim Bove of the Redmond Police Department.Jinaga was from India, where her family is well-known and where her death is the focus of news stories. Her father, a professor, described to reporters his disbelief that his elder daughter was dead."We don’t have any information about what has happened and they also are not giving any information to us,” said Jinaga’s father, B. C. Jinaga.
