Posted: 1:30 pm PST November 12, 2008Updated: 3:40 pm PST November 12, 2008

Residents of the City of Snoqualmie filled and stacked sandbags Wednesday, working to protect buildings from floodwaters as the Snoqualmie River rose.

The river was at a Phase IV flood level and expected to crest at about 4p.m. at about 46,000 cubic feet per second, city officials told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Graham Johnson.

Flooding started to occur Wednesday afternoon in the downtown Snoqualmie neighborhoods of Pickering Court, Walnut, Spruce, Park, Mountain Avenue and Mountain Drive.

Evacuation is highly recommended in those areas and residents in the floodplain of Snoqualmie should make all emergency flood preparations possible, officials said.

Sandbags and sand are available for filling at the King Street parking lot downtown Snoqualmie.

Roads currently closed in Snoqualmie include Northern at Pickering Court; Southeast Mill Pond Road from Meadowbrook Bridge to Tokul Road Southeast; and Southeast Reinig Road from 396th Drive Southeast to Meadowbrook Bridge.

Temporary daytime shelter is available at the Snoqualmie Fire Station at 37600 SE Snoqualmie Parkway. An overnight shelter, if needed, will be established at Twin Falls Middle School at 46910 SE Middle Fork Road in North Bend.

Parking is available at the Community Park parking lot on Snoqualmie Ridge and on Ridge Street in front of Cascade View Elementary School.

Assistance may be obtained by calling the Snoqualmie Emergency Operations Center 425-888-5911. Questions may be directed to 425-888-1551.
