SEATTLE -- A King County judge is on trial and her job is on the line as she’s accused of being too rude in court. King County District Court Judge Judith Eiler is a no-nonsense kind of judge, but at times her blunt talk reminds folks of another judge, Judge Judy on TV. Kris Mazanti and his mother, Tammy, were among those testifying Wednesday at a Judicial Conduct Commission proceeding to determine whether Eiler should be kicked off the bench - for an alleged pattern of being condescending, undignified and intimidating.“She would always have a just a smart aleck answer and I just thought she was very rude,” Tammy said. Eiler has been accused of this before. Four years ago, she was reprimanded and forced to have behavioral training, but she's now accused again, and examples of her transgressions were played in court."If you drive like an idiot 'cause you're late for work, you're gonna have to pay for it," Eiler said in a court recording. She's accused of being abrasive to defendants and to attorneys.“You do not get to interrupt at this point, unless you're making a proper objection. ‘Objection your honor.’ All right then. Don't, sir, then don't say ‘I must interrupt.’ Say objection,” Eiler said. Eiler's attorney said she is simply tough on crime and would never swear or make racial or ethnic slurs."Could she be more likeable? I guess we all could be. Is that the test for throwing someone off the bench? Absolutely not," said Anne Bremner, Eiler's attorney.Eiler has served as a judge since 1992 and was elected to the position.
