VIDEO: Gregoire Describes Meeting With ObamaAfterward, she told KIRO 7 how she wants to spend the money and what happens if it doesn't come soon.Wastewater treatment was at the top of the list when we asked Gov. Gregoire how she wants to spend federal economic stimulus dollars. Our bureau in Washington, D.C. met the governor after she met with President-elect Obama in Philadelphia."That's an interesting list. It's not only wastewater treatment, it's roads and highways, it's green collar jobs, so it's pretty expansive," she said. Why wastewater treatment? Because Gregoire wants to clean up Puget Sound, and she's looking for at least $50 million in federal stimulus dollars to help with problems like sewage treatment plants that overflow during major storms, polluting the Sound.Gregoire joined 40 other governors for a meeting in Philadelphia to share their ideas on a stimulus package with president-elect Obama."I think it will be potentially thousands of jobs, depending on how large the stimulus package is. And it's very clear President Obama is talking about a swift, bold stimulus package," Gregoire said.In Seattle, for example, work on the Mercer Mess would generate an estimated widening the Spokane Street Viaduct would generate more than 1700 jobs.Obama is asking Congress to have a stimulus package ready for him to sign on Inauguration Day next month.Gregoire said she is concerned about the effect on Washington's economy if stimulus money doesn't come quickly to create jobs."We're looking at draconian cuts in education and services to our most needy," she said. The Alaska Way Viaduct and the 520 Bridge are not part of stimulus plan because those projects are not ready to go quickly. The governor's office said she went alone on the trip, she flew coach to Philadelphia and she took the train to Washington, D.C. No word yet on total cost.Gregoire's staff told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Richard Thompson that she has "declined to be considered" for a position in the Obama Administration. She was not offered anything.
