Former UW Player Investigated In Sixth Possible DUI

Posted: 1:26 pm PST December 4, 2008Updated: 1:49 pm PST December 4, 2008

Following charges of driving under the influence on Wednesday, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News has learned that former University of Washington football player Reggie Rogers is under investigation for vehicular assault and driving under the influence following a crash in Tacoma on Nov. 15.

If charged, it would be the sixth DUI Rogers has been charged with in Washington state.

Police spokesman Detective Brad Graham said Rogers was involved in a crash on Marine View Drive and Norpoint Way on the city's northeast side.

Rogers allegedly hit another car, lost control, left the roadway and landed on top of another vehicle, Graham said.

Rogers and the other driver were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

EXTENDED INTERVIEW: Rogers On DUI Suspicions

Law enforcement sources told KIRO 7 that emergency crews smelled alcohol on Rogers' breath and that police ordered a blood alcohol level test to determine if he had been drinking. Results are expected within a week.

No charges have been filed while investigators await the results of the toxicology tests.

On Wednesday, Rogers told KIRO 7 reporter Karen O’Leary that he is adamant that he was not drunk last week when he was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run.

"I swear on my dead mom's grave, no…I hadn’t even drunk (anything) all day,” Rogers said.

According to charging documents released Wednesday morning, Reggie Rogers smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words when he was arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 near the Southcenter Mall.

“I don’t even drink (anymore). I don’t do drugs; I don’t do (any) of that. I drink a little beer, all of my neighbors can tell you, I do it right here. I don’t drink and drive. I'm 45, I'm not a kid,” Rogers said.

Rogers, who will be 45 years old in January, is charged with two misdemeanors.
