Shelton Man Killed In House Fire

A 34-year-old Shelton man died early Sunday morning during a fire at his home.

At about 3:14 a.m., Mason County sheriff’s deputies responded to the house fire on Southeast Craddick Road about nine miles south of Shelton with firefighters from fire districts 4 and 5.

Deputies said they arrived a few minutes before firefighters and were told by witnesses that the residence was occupied.

Deputies made attempts to enter the home to rescue the man, but the fire was too hot for the rescue efforts to be successful, police said. Deputies said they were also hampered from rescuing the man because the rear door of the home was bolted shut.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but the manufactured home was a total loss, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. Initial indications were that the fire was accidental, investigators said.
