A 9-year-old Texas girl's letter to Santa Claus led to the arrest on Friday of a 55-year-old man on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

The girl's letter, turned in at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in the south Texas town of Pharr, asked that a relative stop touching her and her sister, according to the McAllen Monitor newspaper.

Andres Enrique Cantu, of Pharr, remained in the Hidalgo County Jail Monday night after his arrest. His bond was set at $100,000. It wasn't immediately clear if Cantu had an attorney.

The girl wrote the letter Thursday, the Monitor reported. She then told authorities about the alleged abuse in an interview, according to a probable cause complaint. Investigators said in the complaint they believe the molestation occurred over a four-year period.

The Monitor is not disclosing Cantu's relationship to the victim to protect her identity.
