Flowers and candles mark the spot in Ballard where a bicyclist was killed in a collision with a van on Wednesday.

The bicyclist, Kevin Black, 39, was the father of two and was a molecular neurobiologist at the University of Washington.

Police said Black was trying to pass a van on the left when the van turned left in front of him near the intersection of Northwest 64th Street and 24th Avenue Northwest.

Police said the driver of the van is cooperating with officers.

MyBallard.com reports Black was well-known in the cycling community. Cyclists are remembering him on bikehugger.com.
