EVERETT, Wash. -- Lynnwood police have recovered the car driven by a man who accused of striking a 9-year-old girl as she crossed a street Friday.Police have arrested the man they said hit the 9-year-old girl in a crosswalk and then briefly drove off with her, said Robert Goetz of the Everett Police Department.Goetz told KIRO 7 that the 39-year-old Everett man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of felony hit-and-run and first-degree kidnapping in the Friday morning incident. The girl was on her way to school at about 8 a.m. when she was hit while crossing Pecks Drive and Cady Road. After the collision, the driver picked up the girl and told a witness he was taking her to a hospital, Goetz said. The driver asked a construction worker where the nearest hospital was, but the worker was not familiar with the area. She went to ask a co-worker, but when she returned the vehicle was gone, Goetz said.At about 8:40 a.m., a clerk at the Aurora Village Mart near Shoreline called 911 to report a man had dropped off the 9-year-old girl.Police and medics arrived at the scene, but the driver had left. The girl was transported to Harborview Medical Center and admitted for observation, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.Several hours after the incident, an unidentified man called 911 from an Everett shopping center, saying he had "issues" and wanted to turn himself in, Goetz said. The man indicated he was involved in the accident.Goetz said the girl identified the man from a photo montage.Police said the suspect’s vehicle was stolen from a dealership.
