OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The search is on for the person who stole guns, vests and other equipment from a Washington State Patrol vehicle.Someone broke into the unmarked Ford Crown Victoria on Friday while it was parked near the state Capitol building.Sgt. Freddy Williams said the trooper, who is a member of the SWAT team, was on Capitol security duty for the legislative session in Olympia when someone broke into his trunk and stole the items."It wasn't like they were laying in the back seat. They were locked in the hard-sided plastic case and locked in the trunk of the car. Somehow opened up the trunk of the car to take the weapons and the equipment bag," Williams said. The weapons taken were a 5.56-caliber Colt M4 rifle, a .40-caliber H&K tactical pistol, ammunition for the guns, night vision goggles and flash grenades.Troopers warned that the thieves may try to impersonate a trooper. They stole body armor-style vests with "police" and "WSP" printed on them.
