Sheriff's detectives have arrested a suspect in the kidnapping of two toddlers who were in an SUV when someone stole it Monday evening.

The sheriff's office said the suspect was arrested at an apartment in Tukwila at about 2:30 p.m. There were no other details about the arrest.

Daniel Harris, the Burien man whose daughter was one of the children in the vehicle, told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News he was devastated when a man jumped into his Jeep Cherokee and sped off with his 11/2-year-old daughter and his 3-year-old niece inside.

He also said that he forgives the person who did this.

"I'm so hurt 'cause I'm supposed to be a dad and I'm supposed to protect and I just felt in a moment of carelessness I could've lost my daughter," Harris told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Karen O'Leary.

Detectives said they believe the suspect was loitering at a gas station convenience store Monday at about 7 p.m. when Harris stopped to buy cigarettes, leaving his unlocked Jeep outside with the engine running said.

Harris saw someone get into the car and start to drive away. He ran to the car and pulled open the driver’s door, yelling, “My kids, my kids,” but the thief pushed him out of the doorway and drove off.

The driver of the stolen Jeep Cherokee later pulled into a grocery store parking lot, honking the horn.
