Man Arrested In Toll Booth Slingshot Attacks

A Gig Harbor man who was allegedly upset about his expired Good To Go Pass may have used a sling shot and ball bearings to hit the windows of two Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll booths, said Washington State Patrol trooper Brandy Kessler.

A toll booth attendant was collecting money when her booth was hit with an object, breaking the glass and sending it everywhere. Two days later, the same object hit an unoccupied booth, Kessler said.

Checking surveillance cameras, detectives were able to get the vehicle’s license plate number and track it to a Good To Go Pass account number.

In both incidents it was the same truck with the same Good to Go Pass account, Kessler said.

Detectives identified the suspect as 50-year-old James Artley of Gig Harbor. Artley had used a “wrist rocket” sling shot to shoot a 3/8 metal ball bearing at the toll booth because he was upset about infractions he received after his Good To Go account expired, Kessler said.

Artley was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, second-degree malicious mischief and reckless endangerment.
