Mother Of Two Killed In Mossyrock Gas Theft

The owner of a store and gas station in Mossyrock was repeatedly run over and killed by a driver who was stealing gas after filling up on Monday, the Thurston County Sheriff's Department said.

Sheriff Mansfield said John Angeline pulled into the "Flying K" Mossyrock Market, pumped $34 of gas into his pickup and then got back inside his vehicle and tried to leave without paying.

The store's owner came outside and confronted the man, telling him not to leave while standing in front of his truck and waving her arms, a Sheriff's Department news release said.

Police said the driver then gunned the engine, knocked the woman to the ground and drove over her legs. He then put the vehicle in reverse and backed up over the top of her, which caused her body to tumble underneath the truck. The man then accelerated forward at a high rate of speed, drove over the top of the victim and dragged her to the exit of the parking lot near the road.

Residents identified the woman as Soon Yang, the Chronicle reported. She died at the scene from her injuries.

"I don't know what kind of human being can kill a person like this and go on," said Yang’s daughter Nellie Yang.

Mansfield said the driver fled eastbound on East State Street, stopped about a block from the store and was wrapped in a blanket when he got out of his truck.

When a Mossyrock police officer contacted Angeline, the man failed to comply. The officer used a Taser on him and took him into custody.

Eyewitnesses said Angeline looked like he was in an altered state. He was transported to the Lewis County Jail, where he was booked for investigation of third-degree assault and second-degree murder.

"Everyone loved my mom, she was always smiling. She was everything to me, I loved her so much and I don't know how I can go on without her," said Nellie Yang.

The case is still under investigation.
