A 44-year-old man is at St. Peter's Hospital after being attacked with a claw hammer inside his Grays Harbor County home.

The victim, Allen West, lives near Elma.

Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott said three men who know West came over to his home Friday and may have been using drugs. Detectives said they believe one of the men, 27-year-old Darron Detrick, used a claw hammer to attack West causing several skull fractures.

Detrick then allegedly stole West’s wallet and left him in the home, Scott said.

West’s sister came to the house Saturday and found West on the floor. She ran to a neighbor’s home for help and West was transported to the hospital. Scott said West was able to identify his attacker before he was transported to the hospital.

Detrick will be facing first degree assault and robbery charges.

West is listed in fair condition at St. Peter’s hospital in Olympia.

Scott said West had previously suffered a brain injury that had left him impaired and that he also lives alone in a home with no phone.
