Bus Hits Elderly Man In Motorized Wheelchair

STANWOOD, Wash. -- An elderly man was critically injured after he was struck by a bus in Stanwood.An 86-year-old man was crossing Marine Drive in a motorized wheelchair when a Community Transit bus turning right onto Marine Drive from the Warm Beach Senior Community Center struck the man in the crosswalk, said Rebecca Hover of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff's collision detectives are investigating the crash that happened about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 20400 block of Marine Drive in unincorporated Stanwood.The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries, Hover said.A long-time female driver and about six passengers were on board the route #240 bus, said Community Transit spokesperson Tom Pearce.She'll be on leave pending the accident investigation, Pearce said.The crash remains under investigation. No citations have been issued.
