Tacoma Man Sentenced To Life In Prison

Posted: 10:00 am PDT April 11, 2009Updated: 10:59 am PDT April 11, 2009

A 26-year-old man has received a mandatory life sentence for the execution-style fatal shootings of two people at a marijuana growing operation at a house in Everett.

Saroeun Phai of Tacoma declined to say anything Friday before Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Larry McKeeman handed down the sentence, The Herald of Everett reported.

Phai was convicted in March of aggravated murder.

Phai and co-defendant Areewa Saray planned to commit robbery. On July 2, 2008, prosecutors allege they barged into the house, shot 20-year-old Linda Nguyen as she opened the door and gunned down 23-year-old Kevin Meas in the basement. Each was shot twice in the head.

Nguyen and Meas lived in the house and were paid to take care of the pot farm. The house contained about 800 marijuana plants, lights, fans, filters and an irrigation system.

The Herald reported Phai's lawyer, Phillip Sayles, says Phai will appeal the conviction.

The 21-year-old Saray also was convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to life in prison. He is appealing the conviction, the Herald reported.
