PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Burglars stole the gift students at Northwest Christian School in Puyallup were hoping to leave as their legacy. Seventh and eighth graders planned to build two sheds as a class gift to the school. On Sunday night, someone cut a lock and broke into a storage container stealing much of the building material, as well as tools. “I haven't totally figured it out yet, but probably, all together with my tools, trailer and all it's probably close to $3,000 that was taken,” said volunteer builder Greg Wahlstrom.Wahlstrom is volunteering to help with the construction and his wife Mary is the class teacher. Northwest Christian School has just gone through a massive overhaul with new buildings, classrooms and a new playing field. The students thought the school needed a place to store sports equipment and a tractor, but they said now they don’t have enough to finish the work. “No, I don't think so. We have a lot of the roof stuff that's gone, tools and everything that we probably can't finish without,” said class president Matthew Buell. Whoever broke into the storage container may have also tried to get into the school, but failed, police said. The students said unless they find a way to replace what was stolen, they won't get the class project done in time.
