Therapy Cat Stabbed At Seattle Rehab Center

SEATTLE -- A stray cat that adopted the staff and residents of a church rehabilitation program is in intensive care after being stabbed by a resident of the program. Mike Stinnette, rehabilitation program director at The Cross Church, said Scatt the cat showed up nearly a decade ago and has become "part of our family."Over time, Scatt became a therapy cat for rehabilitation clients. The cat suffered three broken ribs, a perforated lung and a 7-inch gash on his side in the weekend attack. King County sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said a 47-year-old man was arrested for investigation of animal cruelty.If convicted, the man could be fined up to $10,000 and be sentenced to up to five years in jail. The cat is being treated at a south Seattle veterinary hospital.The animal welfare group Pasado's Safe Haven has offered to pay for his treatment.The organization said the cat's prognosis was guarded but optimistic.
