Bicyclists Caught Breaking Rules Of Road

The weather is getting better, and more people are choosing to leave their car keys at home and ride their bicycle. Do you remember the rules of the road for bicyclists?

We went along with Seattle bike officers as they patrolled the streets of downtown Seattle. In just 30 minutes, we found plenty of examples of what you shouldn't do as a cyclist and driver when sharing the road.

There are three things SPD wants you to remember when you head out the door to keep you safe:

1) Bicyclists must obey the same traffic laws as cars when they ride on the road.

2) It is legal for bicyclists to ride on the footpath. They must give way to pedestrians if they decide to do this and abide by the same rules as pedestrians.

3) Bicyclists must signal to change lanes. Weaving in and out of traffic is illegal.

The bike officers say that confusion and distracted drivers are the biggest danger they see out on their shift for cyclists.

This has been a hot topic. Check out what others are saying at this link.
