Do cars stop for you when you try to cross the road or drivers do the walkers do something they shouldn't?

The KIRO 7 Traffic team joined Seattle Police on a crosswalk sting in North Seattle. In a one hour time period, officers gave out more than 40 tickets. The biggest violation was not stopping for a pedestrian that was showing intent to cross the road. We also saw pedestrians breaking the law. You can watch the video from the sting at this link .

Few pedestrians bother to look to see if a car is coming, especially in parking lots. Some rspnsblty should be assumed by peds.@KathyinGraham

In Port Angeles you only have to walk to any curb and the cars will stop. Its really weird!@olympicpnw

Walkers often leave the sidewalk without looking, wearing ear buds, and directly into the path of cars already turning....and in fairness, drivers turning R at intersections are often too busy looking L & forget to check for peds in the xwalk.@Lane_Bailey

"I am both driver and pedestrian...I hang out a lot on Broadway in Seattle, and as a driver up there, lights mean nothing to most of the pedestrians, try waiting for a cross walk to clear before the light turns on ya, and 8 times out of 10 you get someone stepping into the crosswalk when it's flashing don't walk and you are forced to make your turn on the red and right on the heals of the pedestrian.
