PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. -- Porta-potties may have softened the landing of a small plane crash at the north end of Thun Field near Puyallup.A witness to the crash told KIRO 7 the plane landed on a field full of portable toilets at Cascade Honey Buckets and the pilot and passenger were able to walk from the crash because of the soft landing."We saw the plane take off, it got about 300 feet in the air one sputter and the engine quit," said eyewitness Ed Hrivnak.Witnesses said they then watched as the plane went down, smashing into portable toilets at Northwest Cascade Honey Buckets right next to the airport."I think the Honey Buckets compressing and taking the impact really prevented this man from being seriously injured," Hrivnak said. The 67-year-old pilot was able to walk away from the crash with only minor bump to his head.He was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but will be OK, said Mike Blair of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. Those who witnessed the crash said if the pilot had landed anywhere but on the Honey Buckets he easily could have been killed. Blair said the pilot could have slammed into a nearby mobile home area and caused much more damage or more injuries.
