An instructor at The Evergreen State College has been arrested on voyeurism and indecent exposure accusations, police say.

Campus police arrested Brian Walter, 35, a member of the faculty at the Olympia college on Wednesday, police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News South Sound Bureau Chief Richard Thompson.

A witness told police he saw Walter masturbating in the men's shower in the College Recreation Center locker room on Tuesday while staring at two other men who were showering, according to a police report.

Walter was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of voyeurism, a class C felony, according to the report.

In Walter’s first appearance in court Thursday, prosecutors indicated that this may not be an isolated incident and that an investigation into his behavior continues.

"There are indications this not a one-time thing," said Senior Deputy Prosecutor Christy Peters.

Some students who know the professor find the allegations hard to believe.

"I just like the guy and I feel for him it sucks that's all," said student Chris MackDonald.

Evergreen officials said they are waiting to see what happens with the criminal case against the professor before making any decisions.

"We have not taken any action against him because he's still innocent until proven guilty in our system." said Evergreen State College spokesman Jason Wettstein.

A judge ordered the professor released on his own recognizance.

He is allowed to resume teaching at the college, but has been ordered to stay away from the Campus Recreation Center while the criminal case against him is pending.

Walter teaches math, logic, computer science and improvisational theater, according to his Web page.
