Bear Captured In Everett Is Likely 'Urban Phantom'

Wildlife agents have removed a bear from a wooded area near Interstate 5 in Everett.

This is "most likely" the same bear that’s reported to be seen in Magnolia, Ballard, Shoreline and Everett, said wildlife agent Nicholas Jorg.

The Everett Police Department and wildlife agents had the bear cornered Friday afternoon and shot it with tranquilizer darts. Once the bear was asleep, agents dragged the 180 pound male bear out of the woods and into a carrier.

“He looks pretty good. He was real scared when we darted him, a lot of noise. He's had a lot of stress so we're just trying to keep him as calm as possible and take care of him,” Jorg said.

After agents brought the bear out, they hosed him down with water so he didn’t overheat.

He will be taken to an undisclosed location and let free once he wakes up.

Wildlife agents said they thought he moved from King County to Everett by walking the railroad corridor.
