Substance Found In Everett Home May Be Ricin

Police called to a house in Everett because of a domestic dispute wound up searching the home for ricin, a deadly toxin.

FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs told KIRO 7 that the case is not believed to be connected to terrorism, and people in the neighborhood weren't in danger as the search was conducted Thursday.

Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said that officers were first called to the home Monday night after a domestic incident. When the wife returned to the home Wednesday, she found something suspicious in her husband's office, leading to Thursday's search.

Ricin, which is extracted from castor beans, is illegal to possess or manufacture, KIRO 7 reported. It is deadly in small amounts but easily contained, Burroughs said.

It wasn't immediately known whether any actual ricin was found.
