A man accused of attacking his girlfriend and then taking her across two counties and leaving her for dead Saturday is scheduled to be in court Monday.

Investigators say the man kidnapped his girlfriend at knife-point in Port Ludlow in Jefferson County then continually beat her while they drove to Port Orchard in Kitsap County.

The victim told investigators she moved to Jefferson County from Pasco to escape the abusive relationship but the man found her at her grandparent's house and threatened her and her family if she didn't go with him.

Investigators said the beating lasted for hours before she escaped in the woods and flagged down a newspaper carrier.

"She was pretty shaken up and crying and stuff. She was afraid he was going to wake up and come and get her," said newspaper carrier Robert Zollna.

Zollna said the woman was injured and bleeding. He took her to his van and called 911.

Sheriff's deputies said they found the 38-year-old man asleep in his car in a nearby driveway and arrested him.

The 24-year-old woman was treated at a local hospital.

The man is being held at the Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and assault.
