SEATTLE -- A man suspected of shooting and leaving a dog to die turned himself in to police, according to a press release from King County Animal Care and Control. The black- and rust-colored Rottweiler was found shot on a forest service road near North Bend on May 31. The dog was wearing a pinch collar and was tied to a log. Veterinarians had to euthanize the dog four days after he was found. The man reportedly admitted that he attempted to kill the dog after experiencing behavioral problems with the animal and felt that he did not have enough money to pay for a proper euthanasia service from a veterinarian, said King County interim shelter manager Nancy McKenney.Eleven credible tips from the public came in to animal control after information about the dog went out on Thursday and led to the man's confession, McKenney said. His name is not being released because he was questioned but released pending charges being filed.Investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence in the case. Intentionally shooting a dog and leaving it to suffer carries a maximum $10,000 fine and up to five years in prison."Tragedies like this can be avoided … They can also always surrender an animal to King County Animal Care and Control and let us work with our volunteers and partners to get training for the dog and help it find a better home. If your pet is licensed, we will even arrange to pick the pet up for you. There are always other options," McKenney said.
