A Snohomish County man has been sentenced in federal court in Seattle to seven years and three months in prison and lifetime supervised release for distribution of child pornography.

Forty-nine-year-old Gordon Lee Parkin of Granite Falls was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court, KIRO 7 reported.

Parkin pleaded guilty in January and has been detained at the Federal Detention center at Sea Tac since his arrest in July 2008.

Parkin was identified by investigators with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as using the Google "Hello" chat program to send more than 8,000 images of child pornography.

Parkin will be required to register as a sex offender when released from prison.
