SULTAN, Wash. -- Four juveniles and one adult appeared in court Thursday in connection with the beating and stabbing death of a Lynnwood teenager who was found dead on Wednesday.Police said all five are accused of second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Antonio Faris Marks of Marysville.Marco Antonio Castillo, 19, is the oldest suspect and confessed to stabbing Marks in the torso four or five times before he died.Four juveniles also appeared in a Snohomish County courtroom Thursday, including Castillo’s 16-year-old brother, another 16-year-old boy and two girls, ages 16 and 17.Bail was set at $1 million for Castillo and $500,000 for the other suspects. The case began when sheriff’s deputies received a report of a man lying in the middle of the road in the 100 block of Fourth Street in Sultan at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.Police arrived and found 17-year-old Marks lying in the street with critical injuries, including stab wounds and signs of beating. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he later died.Homicide detectives said several surveillance cameras in the area captured the attack on video. The video showed several people attacking Marks, including a male who initially hit him in the face before he fell to the ground, according to probable cause documents from the Sultan Police Department. The male then punched Marks numerous times, backed up, and allowed the other suspects to assault Marks. The male came back, grabbed a knife out of his pocket and stabbed Marks four or five times, according to court documents.Marks was then kicked in the head before all the suspects took off running.Shortly before the incident, someone called 911 to report people being loud in the street. The caller said the culprits lived in the 200 block of Cedar Avenue, about five blocks from the crime scene in Sultan.Detectives went to the home on Cedar Avenue and talked with two males, including Castillo, who lived there. While there, detectives spotted bloody clothing and a bloody pair of shoes in plain view. Castillo also had a swollen right hand and a cut on his finger. Snohomish County sheriff's deputies served a search warrant at the house and arrested Castillo.During an interview, Castillo admitted to punching and stabbing Marks and then leaving him in the street, court documents stated. He told police he got into a fight with Marks the night before and saw him again on his way home from a store when he attacked him.He said Marks never assaulted him, nor did he have any weapons. He said he didn’t intend to kill Marks, but wanted to cause enough injury that he wouldn’t come back that night. The medical examiner said Marks died from blunt force injury to head and neck.Prosecutors said all five suspects will be charged as adults.
