LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Transit leaders in Washington and across the country have declared Thursday "Dump the Pump" day.Transit personnel were at the Lynnwood Transit Center Thursday morning, standing by to calculate how much a person would save by using a bus, train or van pool instead of driving.Similar activities are taking place from Seattle to Everett and Pierce County.Elsa Alvarez said she's been commuting from Mountlake Terrace to downtown Seattle by bus for eight years."The main thing for me is the parking in Seattle and right now, the gas (prices). The prices are going high and it's easier and less stressful, and you get there safer I think," said Alvarez.Alvarez said on the rare occasions she does drive to Seattle, the cost of parking is close to $20 a day.Meanwhile, the price of regular-grade gas was $2.91 a gallon at one Lynnwood gas station Thursday.
