SEATTLE -- Former King County Assessor Scott Noble, who resigned Thursday, was sentenced to eight months in jail for vehicular assault from a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5.

When asked if he wanted to say anything, Noble said, “I'm very sorry for the injuries to Ms. Jones and Ms. Workman. It won't happen again."

Noble pled guilty to vehicular assault in May after he admitted driving drunk and causing a wrong way crash on I-5 that demolished a SUV and caused serious injuries to the two women inside. He also admitted in court on Friday that he has struggled with alcohol for 20 years.

"The vast majority of the time I was sober I wasn't perfect," Noble said.

His lawyer asked for a short sentence of three months of work release, but the prosecutor wanted nine straight months of jail time.

Judge Michael Fox ended up imposing an eight month sentence, allowing work release.

"I certainly think work release can be employed without any danger to the public and that's what I'm gonna do,” Fox said.

With that decision, Noble will spend his nights in jail but will get to leave during the day for his new job, working the front desk at a massage clinic in the Northgate Mall.

The judge reprimanded Noble for not doing more to control his alcoholism. Noble promised in the future he would.

“The specific thing I intend to do is leave the interlock device on my car or future car forever," Noble said.

On Thursday, Noble delivered a letter to Metropolitan King County, officially resigning as King County Assessor.
