A juvenile suspect was taken into Seattle police custody early Wednesday morning and booked on charges of car theft, eluding police and attempted burglary.

Police said around 1:30 a.m., officers began following a car that was reported stolen heading northbound, near downtown on Highway 99. Police called off the pursuit just before the stolen car entered the Battery Street tunnel at a high speed. Officers later found the car crashed into a tree near the intersection of Bridge Way North and Woodland Park North but by then the suspect had already fled the scene.

While officers were searching the area for the suspect, 911 received a call about an attempted burglary at a home near the crash site. The homeowner and their three dogs were able to scare off the burglar but the suspect was immediately tracked by K9 and taken into custody.

The juvenile suspect is being held at the Youth Services Center pending investigation.
