Roofers Blamed For Massive Renton Fire

Posted: 10:07 am PDT July 3, 2009

Investigators said roofers applying hot material to a building under construction in Renton caused a massive five-alarm fire there Tuesday.

Authorities said construction workers were using a propane torch to apply roofing materials.

Flames tore through the five-story building and a huge plume of smoke could be seen for miles.

More than 100 firefighters from fire departments across King County fought the inferno.

The damage to the building, which was a total loss, is $11 million.
