Vandals Blow Up Mailboxes, Garbage Cans

Posted: 9:29 am PDT July 9, 2009

Police are looking for vandals responsible for blowing up mailboxes and garbage cans overnight in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood.

At Northwest 70th and Dibble Street, one plastic garbage can was blown into pieces after some kind of explosive was placed inside.

Mailboxes in the area were also targeted, and one at Northwest 95th Street was blown off its post.

Residents reported hearing explosions between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Thursday.

Gunpowder marks could be seen on some of the damaged trash cans.

It's a federal crime to deface a mailbox.
