A group of half-naked animal-rights activists dressed like fish say a veterinary convention is no place for fish-throwing.

About a dozen members of PETA protested Saturday outside the annual convention of the Illinois-based American Veterinary Medical Association, the Seattle Times reported.

PETA members said they were upset that the association, devoted to caring for animals, refused to cancel a presentation by the popular fish-throwers from Pike Place Market, one of the city's top tourist attractions.

Some lay topless on the sidewalk and others carried signs that said things like "Gutted Alive."

The veterinarians group considered PETA's request, but ultimately decided against it. Spokesman David Kirkpatrick said the event was not disrespectful to fish.

About 10,000 people are in town for the convention, which focuses on topics such as animals' role in global health.
