Police are trying to identify a bus they believe struck and killed a man as he was crossing a downtown Seattle street early Friday morning.

The light-colored bus with a dark stripe or tinted windows, possibly a tour bus, was turning from southbound Sixth Avenue to eastbound Cherry Street when it struck the man, police said.

Police said it appears the bus hit the man as he was crossing with the light and that the bus did not stop.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the bus to contact the Seattle Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.

A passer-by found the man's severely crushed body at about 12:20 a.m. Officers and paramedics arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the damage to the man's body was severe and that it was difficult to identify distinguishing features of the victim.

No witnesses have come forward in the incident, and police have few details about the victim.

A car was towed from the scene at 4:30 a.m. that police said might belong to the dead man.

Streets around the scene were closed for more than six hours during the investigation.
