Overnight Temperatures Dip, Signaling Cooler Weather Ahead

Temperatures dipped into the 50s and 60s in Western Washington early Friday morning, a break from record warm overnight temperatures, as forecasters predicted highs in the 80s for Friday and the weekend.

"Mother Nature is bringing back the air conditioning," said KIRO 7 meteorologist Sam Argier, who added that high temperatures Friday are expected in the mid to low 80s around the Sound.

Seattle is expected to hit a high of 84 degrees on Friday, more than 10 degrees cooler than Thursday, he said. The heat wave peaked on Wednesday, with a new all-time record high temperature of 103 degrees.

Forecasters said marine air pushing in from the coast will gradually cool things off even more next week.

The break in the heat is a relief, after a string of record-breaking hot days and a report from the King County Medical Examiner's Office of the first death associated with the heat wave.

The victim, a Seattle man in his 60s, had heart disease with heat as a contributing factor to his cause of death, the ME said. Full Story

Eastern Washington will remain hot through the weekend with high temperatures in places over 100. A heat advisory is in effect until Sunday night for areas including Ellensburg, Yakima, the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla.

Forecasters said there's a chance of thunderstorms in the mountains.
